Symbols and Architecture in D.C Remind Us of Strength and Integrity As A Nation

Ben Boothe in D.C.While in D.C. today again it seems that every building has multiple symbols  of our nation's highest values.  We are admired and studied by people throughout the world. I love this city because even the design  of this city and the veiled messeges in each building teach lessons to the informed and curious.  Interviewing people here I hear observations from residents who have seen politicians come and go for generations. "The American people are not stupid and somehow our values eventually overcome political fads and extremes. " one  long term resident told me. A staffer for a Mississippi Congressman told me that the energy of D.C. often overwhelms outdated thinking from the  bayou, river cultures back home.

But America is beautiful and good and those traits make a big part of what and who we are as a nation.  So let the small minded, the bigots, the nay-sayers, the pessimists, the destroyers, the closer downers come and go....it is the builders, uniters, dreamers,  optimists, who have love for humanity above demagoguery , who excel in our United States of America.

That is what this city says to me. It is why I love it so.  Perhaps you need a dose to energize your best aspirations.  Take a trip to Washington D.C. spend some time "reading our buildings" and study those who conceived and built this town....and the capital of America.
