Current Senators and Congress, A National Embarrassment

See our elected people at 'WORK'

Fetnah : 'Tis an ill humor, and an evil bird, Else my mood belies the hour. Ahmed, Prince, good night. Marsavah My last words for thee. Good night — My valient.....Slaves and Fools

“An ill humor that causes illness comes from the banks of the Potomac”, that area of low flooding alleyways was historically a poor and blighted area of DC. We now call it the “Mall”.  People once thought that illness from the swamps caused all kinds of illness and death.  Names such as the “Alley District” and “Foggy Bottom” give some idea that these were not always beautiful landscaped area, but area of disease and poverty.  By the ineffectiveness of our U.S, Senators and Congressmen, it may seem that they have been breathing some of that old rotten air.

We may as well state it clearly in a voice to our elected Senators and Congressmen (and women). "You elected officials, who we the taxpayers have voted you into what should be considered the most powerful and honorable positions of our nation…the potential to represent 'We the People'…you men and women have failed us and become a national embarrassment.

In national polls, used car salesmen, pawn brokers, insurance salesmen, painters, plumbers and preachers, all have higher respect than our elected Senators and Representatives.

Just look at what is going on today in D.C.:

ISSUES IMPORTANT TO AMERICANS

WHAT MOST AMERICANS WANT

STATUS

Fair Immigration Reform

A bill that is fair and gives immigrants and their children a chance in America

Stalled out, because of pressure from fringe groups

Expanded healthcare, Medicare and social security

Broader coverage, no pre-existing conditions, and security in old age

Passed but facing continued fights Republicans who have voted over 30 times to “undo the law” that has passed and that most Americans want

Gun control to keep mentally ill people from buying assault weapons

National data base, more regulation, more controls

Stalled out because of pressure from gun lobby and right wing

Expanded renewable energy and non-polluting energy. Cleaner air, water.

More federal support for renewable energy

Stalled out because of pressure from oil and utility industries, and pressure from right wing.

Higher food standards, and stricter levels of poisons in air and water

Higher standards to protect our food and water supply

Stalled out because of industry pressure

A reasonable federal budget

A budget that allows our government to support the economy and entitlement programs.

Repeatedly the budget is manipulated as a “blackmail” device for a few politicians to grandstand and gain political headlines. Stalled out

 “Do Nothing” elected officials.

Senators and Members of the House, who work to serve “America” instead of petty “party” agendas

Polls show that these elected officials rank lower than any in the history of the U.S.A.

Corruption

Our elected officials not to be corrupt, greed bound, or “owned” by business interests

A rash of new corruption scandals of Senators and Members of the House

We need to elect new Senators and new members of the House of Representatives.  We need to find people who:

  1. Are Americans first without suffix or prefix. (Not Democrat Americans. Liberal Americans, Conservative Americans, Republican Americans, Tea Party Americans, White Americans, Black, Brown or Yellow Americans).  Elect “Americans”.
  2. Are wise, balanced and moderate.
  3. Have experience in the “real world” of commerce, business, education or economics.
  4. Have proven that they are respected and loved for their ideals and integrity.
  5. Are not radicals, extremists, or reactionaries.
  6. Have a world view and the ability to understand the impact of our nation on the world.
  7. Understand the balance needed between regulation and anarchy. Understand why government is important the sacred role of the USA.
  8. Must be open to learning. Must study and use their intellect.

Do you know what the highest point is from the Potomac River banks to the top of Capital Hill?  Most would say that the U.S. Capital sits on the highest point of land. But, no, the Library of Congress and Supreme Court are at the “top of the hill’. Our forefathers designed it that way to say something.  In the Library of Congress, there is a large “Congressional Reading Room” that is rarely used. It was built there to encourage our elected officials to come in and study, to expand their knowledge and to be always seeking new knowledge to better understand governance and how leaders have best led through history. Our elected officials need to learn to “speak less” and “study and research more”.

Obstructionists, Not Leaders for America

One of my good friends, who has been in the U.S. House of Representatives once told me that he had never been in the Library of Congress, nor had he ever sat in the Congressional Reading Room there.  Seeing some of his public statements over the years, I have often thought: “This man needs to educate himself before speaking and voting.”

That is what we as American voters must do. If we love this nation, we should study our people. We need to see how much they really know about governance and leadership. We need to elect better Senators and House Members. It has been said that if we continue to do what we have done we will continue to get what we have gotten.  If we continue to elect shallow minded men and women, who will be pawns to big money, big business, or big political party agendas, we will continue to elect people of giant ego but stunted intellect, like the crowd that we have on Capital Hill now.   I am sorry guys. I love Washington. I know the halls of Congress, the underground tunnels, the history and the ways of power in D.C..

But when we have men and women like you, who have “gridlocked” our government into ineffectiveness, with your obstructive and ill conceived votes, then you men and women need to get out of the way.

The American people are loading up a new “train” of better candidates.  Either get out of the way, or get your act together. We The People are learning that we need insist that our elected officials learn to achieve, not just fight.
