Global artist emerging, Ora Tamir
I met Ora Tamir, in Santa Monica, at an art exhibition. I was stunned by her work, paintings with vivid colors, sensual, and symbolic of the human longing for love and fulfillment. I bought one, and then another of her works. One of them, called "LONGING" is based upon an ancient myth about a man who longed to love a woman.
Every time he would come near to her, she would turn into a tree. Again and again, he would follow her, approach her, and try to love her, only to have her turn into a tree. Finally, the painting captures him under the tree, weeping, because he cannot fully love her and hold her in his arms.
But as he weeps, she, the one he loves, appears in the clouds above, and the viewer sees that she is there, loving him in spirit. It is a beautiful message, the tragedy of his unfulfilled love, and the irony, that she can love him in spirit, but will not be held in his arms. The sadness of knowing her loss, and their loss, is powerful in this painting. When I saw the painting, it touched me deeply. I have known that love, that search, and that sadness.
Another of her paintings shows a man and woman in loving embrace at the instant of orgasm. The two become one in the painting which is called, "1+1=1". It is powerful and magnificent.
Ora Tamir started painting while children her age played "hopscotch". What was considered an affliction that would pass, turned into a chronic condition. Her works now are known throughout the USA, and especially in California. If your are lucky enough to meet her and see her work, you will be moved, as I was.
Trying to describe Ora's paintings is like trying to describe dreams. Using soft sable brushes and oil paints, symbolic stories are created. Her surreal sensual paintings express basic emotions and tap into the intricate human web. Ora's art has futuristic quality and haunting beauty. Paintings are not planned they are purely intuitive. Every original is a long labor of love.
