We all hope for a rapid economic recovery when things “Open Up”. But we all know that there is added risk to exposing all to the Corona Virus too soon. Ironically, some have made it a risk reward equation.
Risk lives, for economic reward. Both sides of the equation have authority.
Economists tell us this is the worst recession since the great depression of 1929.
Doctors tell us this is the deadliest “pandemic” since the great flu epidemic of 1918.
THE BAD NEWS:
Both events bring huge losses. The flu in 1918 caused massive deaths (over 650,000 in the USA, and 50,000,000+ world wide) The Great Depression, brought the nation to it’s financial knees from 1929 and for a decade. Some say it took WW2 to fully bring the USA out of the impact of the depression.
The President has admitted, he wants a rapid booming economy before the “Elections: in Nov 2020”, and reports from DC indicate he is angry, fearful and worried that a bad economy and his under-estimated danger of Corona may cost him the election. We are officially in an economic depression and officially in a massive epidemic. Millions are unemployed or in financial stress from the biggest companies to the smallest families. Most economists believe it is not realistic to believe “happy talk” or wishful thinking will bring us out of this recession before the elections in Nov of 2020.
Medical science and history inform us that these Virus episodes, are slow to go away. They, like a recession, last longer than we would like. Ebola, which had an outbreak in Zaire in 1976 has continued to simmer and has raged back 25 times from 1976-to 2019. In 2019 there was still not an easy cure, and while a vaccine was introduced in 2019, the WHO declared the Congo Ebola outbreak of 2019 a world emergency. Many scientists believe Corona may be with us for a long time.
THE GOOD NEWS:
Hundreds of exceptional, altruistic people, wealthy and poor, have come up with proactive ways to help and show compassion…both for medically sick, and economically injured Americans. It is uplifting to see examples of fellow Americans “doing for others” in numbers of ways. This is what we are attempting to do. We have unique experience in both valuation and environmental issues. There are pockets of real opportunity that emerge in the worst of times for people willing to look, think and be creative and proactive. We believe that property values may offer great investment opportunities. For example, buildings that have had special high intensity and professional “sterilization treatments” could have higher appeal and marketability as things “open up”.
We also believe that buildings, nursing homes, offices, banks, schools, theaters, retail centers, malls and medical buildings, will have more marketability and appeal and perhaps higher value, if they have been sterilized and treated.
