John Dillon, Founder of THE STANDING O PROJECT Featured on BIG SKY VOICES

John Dillon is an interesting man. Back in the 1960's, he watched the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and "liked the music and liked the way the girls responded to the musicians." He was given a guitar and learned to play and a few years later found himself at the Woodstock Festival. "There I was moved. It was a life-changing experience. Music became my world," he told Ben Boothe and Victor Waumett on the Big Sky Voices interview program.

John Dillon now has a radio program, THE ART OF THE SONG, that is aired weekly on more than 130 radio stations. He also has been deeply interested in how musicians are compensated. "Some companies pay mere pennies, sometimes less, when they broadcast or use or even sell a song," he told us. So he started another organization called THE STANDING O PROJECT, which is a large music library. Artists can join it and post their music creations on it. And when their music is used, sold, copied or played they are paid a fair wage for their creativity.

We think that Dillon is an important voice for music in the USA. He touches thousands of people with his radio program.  He is doing something positive for people.  He told us:

"EVERY PERSON HAS A SONG. IT MAY BE MUSIC, IT MAY BE A BOOK, OR AN ACTOR'S PERFORMANCE. WHEN WE SING OUR SONG, WE ARE ENRICHED, WE ARE HEALTHIER, WE ARE HAPPIER." He told us, "Music has positive health and healing qualities."
