Supreme Court Judge Roberts on the harm political games do to the Supreme Court
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. made some straightforward comments, regarding how politicians should handle new appointments. He was critical of elected officials using politics to determine when a new Judge to the Supreme Court was appointed. He made these comments ironically just 10 days before Supreme Court Justice Scalia died.
Chief Justice Roberts made strong and clear remarks stating that the Senate should verify that nominees are qualified, and leave politics out of it.
His remarks were ironically relevant and timely. One report said that these comments from the Chief Justice are a powerful rebuke to Senators who refuse to hold hearings on the President's nominee, Judge Merrick B. Garland. Essentially, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court gave a rebuke in advance, to Republican Senators, who have firmly announced that they will not even meet with or consider a hearing on the President's nominee, Judge Merrick Garland. In the photo, Republicans, Speaker Mitch McConnell and Senator John Cornyn after voting to refuse to even have hearings on the new Supreme Court judge appointee. If they look unhappy, it is a look of Senators putting politics over the Constitution. 
We at BootheGlobalPerspectives have over the past 10 years reported repeatedly about the abuses of politicians putting ideology over the nation, or putting political preference over the Constitution. We have urged these elected officials to serve the people as "Americans" not as Republicans or Tea Partiers, or as Democrats...but as Americans. We should frankly be embarrassed at these acts of the Senate leaders, and they should be ashamed, to so blatantly put party politics over the welfare of the Supreme Court and of our nation. One must wonder how the American people can elect people who get so hooked over "control politics" that they forget the bigger picture.
When the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court makes statements that scold politicians for putting party ideology above what is right or constitutional, the Senate, and the American people should take notice. Justice Roberts says that when politicians turn a judge appointment, into hearings that are confrontational and controversial, that it jeopardizes the power, and the credibility of the Supreme Court, our highest institution of law in the USA. Furthermore delay of this appointment, delay of even considering the U.S. Presidential appointment smacks of pure politics, plus it alters the calendar of the Supreme Court for months, perhaps years, slowing and confusing the effectiveness of the court.
We see that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has clear and honest opinions. He is concerned about our Supreme Court, and about how these politicians cause problems because of their party line ideology. We call for the American people, political leaders of stature and integrity, to speak out and demand that the Republican leaders recant and do the right thing. Albeit, the "right thing" does not seem often considered in this political environment that prefers conflict, even violence, (if the leading Republican candidate for President is any example), to our precious democracy. No wonder so many people believe that the system is broken because of extreme positions, by unwise leadership that prefers politics over good policy, conflict over constitution, power control over success as a democracy.
The Chief Justice gave an observation about elected officials who put ideological party beliefs above ethics and their proper role under the Constitution, contribute to a system that simply is not working well these days. The extreme views of some Senators, are harming the system.
Then Justice Roberts said: “I was confirmed 98 to 0,” he said. “I was known as a conservative then, but I was perceived to be an honest person. I couldn’t get 60 votes today.”
