FOOD SHORTAGES AND FOOD WARS IN 40 YEARS SAYS FOOD RESEARCH PhD
40 YEAR PERSPECTIVE ON FOOD, WATER AND ENERGY
We continue to see both danger and hope for the future.
See headliner in the Texas Dairy and Ag Review, May 2014 edition, this says much that we must consider:
Key points made in Washington D.C. at North American Agricultural Journalist meeting in Washington DC:
- Food issues could be major political destabilization issues by 2050 (in some nations already are)
- World population will increase 30% to 9 billion by mid-century
- A 70% increase in food production will be necessary to meet demand
- Resource limitations will constrain global food systems
- Increases from biotechnology, genetics, agronomics and horticulture will not be sufficient to meet food demand.
- The USA shows agricultural productivity increasing 1.2% per year from 1990 to 2007 and this is not enough to fulfill demand.
- Horticultural crops are 50% of the farm-gate value of all crops produced in the USA.
With agricultural productivity becoming a major aspect of “homeland security” the following are becoming more connected:
Saneh Boothe, of Cornucopia-Enterprise.com says: “Food security, better ways of food production, combining better water technologies such as desalination, better energy technology such as solar and wind powered renewable energy to power irrigation, lighting, and greenhouse needs, all with expanded greenhouse food production could provide a hope for the future. “ For more information on Cornucopia's Greenhouse Eden Gardens Concept see: Food Security
Solutions:
“One person out of eight suffers from chronic undernourishment”….Dr. Fred Davies, Texas A&M
“75% of the world’s poor are in mid income nations such as China, India, Brazil and the Philippines.
POSSIBILITY FOR REBIRTH OF SMALL HEARTLAND TOWNS AND COMMUNITIES:
Small heartland towns and communities which have gradually been dying, can, if they convert to an aggressive community food production economic development program, can become a growth sector of high profit food crops. This with LOCAL LEADERSHIP could offer a chance to rebuild agricultural communities throughout the USA. There is hope that agriculture, because of world demand for food products, can become hugely profitable.
Agricultural communities which have suffered in recent years, can enjoy, through progressive food production development programs, economic expansion. Youth can see profitable and hope filled vocations in the USA again, as it was in the past. This is a call for local leaders to stand up and lead, rebuild, and contribute to this pressing world need and rebuild your towns and cities again. If you need jobs, this is a program that will bring in jobs.
Saneh and Ben Boothe will consider coming to your community if you wish to help share a vision of "rebirth" to a global crisis and how your community can survive and thrive.
